In Time Movie Review

In Time is one of those rare concepts that definitely gives you something to think about – although quite unrealistic, but it’s just that “what if” factor that really adds appeal to the movie.

Director: Andrew Niccol

Cast: Justin Timberlake, Cillian Murphy, Amanda Seyfried.

The director has posed that silent question to real world and mankind – what if you could actually see how much time you had left, and what would you do in that time – would you live the moment, or just keep buying more time, and die without actually enjoying life to the fullest?

Anyway, coming back to the plot – folks discover the secret to stop aging at 25, but they get a “life timer” on their wrists as a payback – when the clock hits 0, a person times out – i.e. dies! And, then the daily life runs with time rather than money, and in literal sense time becomes money! 30 minutes for a good lunch, 5 minutes for a cup of coffee and so on…

Justin Timberlake is the heart and soul of the movie, though he still needs to improve as an actor to say the least… Amanda Seyfried slowly makes her presence felt towards the end, while Cillian Murphy (who made his presence very well felt in 28 Days Later and Batman Begins) has also done good justice to his part.

The movie is all about the race against time, and then in due course of movie, it is slowly shown how the rich get richer, poor get poorer, and die as they’re not able to manage with rising inflation, and they keep getting timed out as they don’t have enough money (i.e. time in this case) to survive.

Justin Timberlake feels the pain as he sees his mother getting timed out in front of his own eyes, and accidentally hits a jackpot as he rescues a 100+ person from muggers in the pub, but that man gifts him 100 years, and times himself out!

He travels to a different time-zone where he always wanted to take his mother, and meets Amanda, who is the daughter of financial head of that zone, and just like every good ‘ol movie, both of them fall in love.
She elopes with her secret love without letting her father know, and everyone feels that she has been kidnapped, and then surprisingly Justin demands the ransom as one million hours for his time zone where tons of people keep getting timed out just because they’re unable to cope up with rising inflation rates…

Then on, there’s just action packed sequence worth a watch as the duo keeps looting one bank after the other, and distributing time to the needy, and the saga continues… (yeah that’s how the movie ends too!)

If you ask me personally, I liked the concept a lot, and even the execution was pretty decent, so I’m giving it a 3.5 stars – grab a DVD today and njoy!

Bebo Turns 32 – Happy B’day Kareena!

Kareena Kapoor, the scintillating Bollywood actress who just gave another Bollywood blockbuster in form of Bodyguard, just turned 32 today, and as per the astrological predictions she’s at the peak of her professional career.

Folks have speculated that perhaps this is also a good time in her personal life too, and the chances of a marriage are also pretty good, but we haven’t heard anything from Bebo – she continues to hang out with Saifu, but not ready to tie knots quite yet!

So, we wish you a very happy B’day bebo – keep rocking, and perhaps settle down with the love of your life (whoever that be!) before you get too old like Sallu that nobody would want to marry you anymore!

Mere Brother Ki Dulhan Movie Review

Mere Brother Ki Dulhan is a fun-to-watch movie, featuring Kat and Imran Khan, which kinda’ resembles Mere Yaar ki Shaadi Hai, in a way (just the plot), except the fact that this time the bride isn’t best friend’s bride, bur rater bhai sahab’s dulhanl hence the name!

The Plot

As the name suggests, Luv (elder bro – Ali Abbas Zafar) and Kush (Imran) are siblings, and after having a break-up with ex-girlfriend, Luv, who is settled in London, asks his younger bro to find a good bride for him in India.

After some efforts, when Kush manages to find a good bride, it turns out to be Dimple (Katrina) who is a free-bird kinda’ bindass girl that loves to freak out, hang high on beers, and do some freaky stuff… Story goes in a small flash-back showing how Kat & Imran had met 5 years back, and how they have a soft corner for each other, but Imran never falls for this feisty tomboy of a girl!

But, this time around, before Kush’s elder bro lands in India, Dimple & Kush have a strong chemistry going, but fail to figure out that they actually love each other, until the day Dimple gets engaged to Kush’s bhai saahab (yes literally that’s what Kush calls Luv in Mere Brother ki Dulhan).

And, then they confess that they love each confess, and need to change the proceedings – Dimple suggests that they elope, and when Kush rules out this idea, she even drugs him with sleeping pills, and takes him in a bus, and when Kush comes back to senses, they’re out of their city!

Basically, all those moments, and the overall plot of the movie, is what really makes it a worthy watch (though just one-time watch!).

Did the Trailers Live Up to Expectations? – Well, not really; especially if you ask me personally… Imran isn’t that good a dancer, and all those copied moves that he has pulled out, weren’t that impressive, nonetheless they make the movie rather amusing…

The Real Star: Both Luv & Kush are kinda’ side-role players, and so is Luv’s girlfriend Pyaali (Tara D’Souza) who hardly has bit of role to play, but the real star of the movie is Kat without a second thought…

Dhunki Laage: A powerful number sung by Neha Bhasin, and equally well enacted by Kat, is also one of the highlights of the move – more than the title song ‘Mere brother ki Dulhan’.

There are lot of hilarious moments in the movie such as the massacred versions of the retro songs like ‘Piya Tu Ab Toh Aaja’, or those dialogues by Katrina that you see in the trailers – “Suicide… Suicide – Gaon Waalon bla bla”

Anyway, coming back to the story – it’s all about how Kush and Dimple manage to marry each other, defying the well set arranged marriage-to-be between Luv and Dimple!

When Luv goes high on lots of beers and bhaang, he confesses that he still loves his ex-gf Pyali, and shows her messages in the inbox; Kush’s best buddy manages to records this conversation, and read those messages too. And, that’s when they decide to call her, and right after getting to know Luv is getting married, she chips in for aid; and just then there’s an item number more like “Shara Shara” in “Mere Yaar ki Shaadi Hai”, and Pyali manages to lure Luv again… And, finally Luv & Pyali elope, and get married in a temple, leaving only Kush & Kat & their families with no choice, but to make-up a scene for Kush’s marriage with Dimple!

In the end, there’s Dhamaal kinda’ drama, and finally Kush manages to marry Dimple – uske bother ki dulhan!

Is Bollywood Losing Its Charm and Quality?

The million dollar question today is whether Bollywood really losing its charm and quality in blind rice of money, and will the industry be dominated by profanity, item numbers, and meaningless songs, and stories that have simply nothing to them?

Well, history has it – the quality and content of cinema has always affected the society of the nation by large means. But in our country, where the movies are merely churned out to entertain and titillate without giving any prior importance to the content , it has inflicted only negative impact. To add to the misery, whatever so called good or entertaining cinemas we create are mostly direct takes of some other movies of some other countries!

The film makers here are on money making spree by showing some demented cinema to our country and specially to the youth , who are mostly likely to follow what they see. There could be a couple of solutions to these issues if taken up seriously.

There has to be a board in alliance with the govt which checks the quality of cinema before allowing it to go public, rather than leave the industry to continue being a churning machine…

The board or institute should also encourage the new and raw talent to come up by routing them through professional institutions. This would slow down the menace of “sons and daughters continuing their legacy“ in the film industry.

We have talent and we have work force – within no time we are capable enough to lift our film industry or for that matter any industry of our country to the highest standards… I just don’t know why we still follow the laid back attitude and keep distance from taking initiatives. Success indeed is just few steps away for a strong and big nation like the one we call India.

Bhag D. K. Bose, or Munni Badnam Hui isn’t what our next generation should be learning, isn’t it?
