Purav Bhandare, the central character in Santosh Sivan’s TAHAAN, has elbowed Darsheel Safary, the child star of TAARE ZAMEEN PAR out of his top slot. There was no written confirmation about the fact that Darsheel was on top of the heap, but the fact that he now endorses so many products and is seen so often on television is a fair enough barometer. Bhandare goes one up. He has tremendous screen presence, is a fabulous actor and has brought alive the character of TAHAAN to endear himself to the viewer, just like Safary did in TZP.

To put it in a nutshell, Bhandare is pure genius. Full marks to Sivan for entrusting this lad with the load of the film. But I suspect, like his character, Tahaan, where he is unknowingly being used by terrorists, Bhandare had no clue that he was the main protagonist of this film!

Before venturing into direction, Santosh Sivan was an acclaimed cinematographer and this time he blends the experience from both fields to come up with a visually appealing and a little disturbing, though thought-provoking film.

Visually appealing because he has captured the purity of the Kashmir Valley, in the way only he can. The beautifully snowcapped valleys and open roads, coupled with the dilapidated houses and fields of snow are visually brought alive on screen. Disturbing because, you feel for the child who is trying in vain to get back his pet donkey, Birbal, with who he shares a bond that no adult will understand.

Disturbing also because in his desire to get back Birbal, he is lured into handling grenades with a promise of getting back his Birbal. Thought provoking because Sivan makes you leave the theatre asking questions about what really is happening in the Kashmir Valley and how the locals are living their lives there.

However, Sivan could have been clearer in his thought process as to what he wanted the viewer to go home with. According to me, there is a thin veil over the storyline, which, if lifted, would have given the viewer a clearer picture. I agree that not all movies need to be easy on the mind; you have to get the viewer involved. But something, somewhere in the script does not allow me to rationalise the move behind the plot. Having said that, I must admit, it’s a good experience but not for the aam junta. It’s for those who love their cinema in art form.

Apart from Bhandare, the lad who plays Idris (Ankush Dubey) is another bright spark in the film. I dare say that Anupam Kher, Sarika and Rahul Bose are just supporting cast.

Move over Safary, here comes Bhandare. On second thoughts, there’s room for more talented children like these two.

The long awaited featured latest Bollywood release Kidnap, could not really impress all the die hard Bollywood fans, although it has succeeded in sustaining in the box office listing as of now

The overall performance of Imran Khan has been pretty much quite ordinary and rather disappointing, in comparison to the cool Jaane Tu Yaa Jaane Naa action!

Directed by Sanjay Gadhvi, Kidnap had high hopes of creating a buzz in the box office, however it failed to even come anywhere close the standards of Jaane Tu Yaa Jaane Naa, and Minissha Lamba couldn’t really make any difference to the movie either!
<more>

Even the dialogues are pretty flat and the versatility is very much missing in emotions and expressions brought on to the screen. Many a times, Imran Khan seemed to be imitating Abhishek Bachchan and even Sanju Baba couldn’t really make his presence felt throughout the movie!

The crowd surely expected a lot more from Imran Khan in scenes such as those featuring his confrontation with Sanjay Dutt and other supposedly action-packed scenes.

The so-called heroin Minissha Lamba, did not do much except some really handy skin-display, which was surely lot more than what she had done in Bachna Ae Haseeno. Probably she is planning to join the skin-flick genre of the Bollywood releases in the upcoming days… It hardly matter whether Minissha can cash big bucks with her body-show-off or not, but the crowd wasn’t really interested in such stupid sexposure, and surely demanded lot more from the movie.

As far as the in-sight of the movie is concerned, Minissha Lambha who plays the role of a teenager gets kidnapped by Imran Khan, who plays the role of Kabir, for settling an old score with her big daddy Sanju Baba, who plays role of a billionaire; Vikrant Raina

Then as expected, Vikrant traces the weird set of clues left behind by Kabir, and the chase was quite interesting… but the action was somewhat missing all in all!

Movies like Man on Fire and Denzel Washington-Dakota Fanning have been produced in such a way that they could catch the nerve of the crowd and build up the excitement to newer levels, but same wasn’t the case with Kidnap! In fact even the Kidnap scene was rather nearly kidnapped completely by the director… However some traces of the act were shown up later, in just a mere flashback of few seconds!

As far as the ending is concerned, it was pretty ordinary just like the rest of the parts, and there weren’t any jovial songs like Pappu can’t dance sala… This was frankly a bigger disappointment to all the Bollywood fans; however the song Meri Ek Ada Shola somehow managed to amuse most of the viewers.

As a whole, there wasn’t really anything truly worth watching and many viewers are claiming that the title of the movie probably suggests that it has been made to kidnap their money for the tickets! Let’s see how long it really survives in the box office!

The Indian film industry popularly known as Bollywood, is not only famous in the country but also in other parts of the world as it’s undoubtedly one of the world’ biggest cinema industry covering the film production, theatrical exhibition as well as distribution.

The ever-green city of Bombay, which is known as Mumbai now, is the urban trendsetter of the nation having a massive crowd crazy about the film industry. It is nestled in nation’s extreme western corner, towards the edge of the Arabian Sea, making it a lovely peaceful place.

But as far as the Bollywood fans are concerned they are not limited to either Mumbai, or India as a whole. There are thousands of BollyWood fans across the globe, especially in the U.S., wherein the majority of the Indian immigrants prefer the local theatres that show Bollywood box office hits rather than the sizzling Hollywood blockbusters!

The likes of Jaane Tu Jaane Na, featuring Imran Khan had been a great hit and created a buzz all over New York, Chicago, Boston and other parts of the United States. Not only did the movie run really well, but it even kicked out the currently running Hollywood counter-parts in due course and recorded house full shows for first couple of weeks.

Same had been the case with other Bollywood classics like Kal Ho Na Ho, which was actually produced in New York City, and had recorded an astonishing 18days continuous streak of jam-packed shows!

All the Indians in the U.S. enjoy the Bollywood blockbusters and many Desi immigrants even love to enjoy the ever-famous first day first show of the latest release!

But the recent releases have not been doing that great in the Bollywood box office. Kidnap has been mostly a big disappointment to many of the viewers, who were expecting a lot more from the movie as well as Imran khan, who had built a great rapport with the crowd after the featured movie Jaane Tu Jaane Na!

Drona hasn’t done well either, in fact Drona has been rather a much bigger disappointment to the crowd than Kidnap! Many amongst the crowd have appreciated the silent message sent through the movie Kidnap, however undeniably a lot more could have been delivered from Imran Khan as well as the movie as a whole.

On the other hand, Drona has been immensely criticized by most of the people in the Abhishek fan club; however some of the loyal fans are still living on with their blind trust in King Abhishek!

Hopefully we can expect couple of mega blockbuster hits in near future to make up for the current disappointment in the crowd!
